What You Don't Know About Eyelash Extensions

Eyelash extensions are a highly bonded synthetic polyester. They are thicker at the base and taper to a fine point. According to Extreme Lashes, (the number one eyelash extension company globally) synthetic lashes respond better to wear and tear than other materials, such as mink.

Extensions are weightless and come in various lengths, thickness, curvatures and colors for highlighting. With proper application , meaning one synthetic eyelash applied to one natural lash, the look and feel is completely natural looking. The overall effect is added curl, thickness and length, giving the eye a more open look and rested look. No one will know that you have extensions. They will just think you were born with beautiful, long lashes!!

The life cycle of a natural eyelash is 60-90 days. Once is has matured, it will shed only to be replaced with another lash in its place. We lose about one to four lashes a day and most people are unaware of this process. It will be more noticeable when the extended lash sheds because they are longer, thicker and darker than the natural lash. Once again, this is only natural.

Eyelash extensions can last indefinitely with periodic touch-ups. A touch up is needed to fill in any lashes that have fallen out and to fill in on the new growth. Touch ups will vary from individual to individual and depend on the natural eyelash cycle. Most touch ups are about three weeks. When you come in for regular touch ups, you should normally have at least 50% of your lash extensions still attached.

After the application of eyelash extensions, the first 24 hours are important for a strong bond. Do not get the lashes wet, and avoid oil based products around the eye area. Also, avoid hot steam or sauna for 48 hours. Be gentle with the extensions, such as, no pulling or rubbing. Mascara is not necessary, but if you must, use only water base and apply on the tips only. Do not use a mechanical eyelash curler. No daily maintenance is needed.
