Julie Hewett™ Make-up – Finally a Place to Land

In the old days, I would try one brand of make-up after another in the search to find the best. A drawer full of partially-used containers of blush, foundation, eye shadows, lip liners and lip gloss proves my search was futile. That was until I discovered the Julie Hewett™ Los Angeles line of makeup. Since having the opportunity to review Julie’s cosmetics, I no longer quest for just the right shade, texture, taste or staying power; I have finally found a home for almost all of my makeup needs.

The Face

Without a doubt, my face is now in the hands of Julie Hewett’s line of make-up. The new Ora Mineral Bronzer creates a natural-looking suntan glow to the cheeks and jaw line with light-reflecting minerals. The tad of gold shimmer in the Aphrodite Ora Mineral Bronzer is just the right amount to catch the eye without appearing like I’m actually wearing shimmer. As with the Ora Mineral Powder foundation, the consistency is smooth and silky, and it lasts throughout the day. As I said in my previous review of Ora Mineral Powder, Ora has permanently replaced bareMinerals in my repertoire. Once again, I tried the bareMinerals left in my drawer when I depleted my Ora Mineral Powder, but the chalky feeling of the bareMinerals had me racing to Simply Spoiled to replace my depleted supply of Julie Hewett™ Ora. My lesson is now officially learned.

Julie is now offering the Cheekie blush in a mirrored palette that fits nicely into even the smallest purse. Although it can be applied with a finger, the cream blush gives me an opportunity to use the Cheekie brush that is my all-time favorite make-up brush. I love the feel of the brush as it glides across my skin; I only wish I could find more uses for it. Drawing a check mark from the cheek bone to the hairline is one of Julie’s celebrity make-up secrets. I often save this look for evening, wearing bronzer or mineral powder and bronzer by day.

Perhaps it is Julie’s years of experience as makeup artist to the stars that has led her to master the art of texture in makeup. Whether it’s foundation, blush, or lip gloss, the texture always seems to be sheer perfection.

The Eyes

The texture continues with the Julie Hewett™ eye shadow that applies softly and easily. Free of talc and parabens, these eye shadows can be used wet or dry. With thirty colors to enhance eyes from nude, smoky, subtle to dramatic and textures from satin, matte, shimmer and frost, the choices are varied. Palettes can even be mixed and matched to create your own custom formula. If you want to play with the colors before buying, visit Simply Spoiled in their new location on Main Street right next to Whiteberry.

I have yet to try the mascara from Julie Hewett™ Los Angeles, but I’m anxious to see if her talents transcend to mascara. Because I’m consistently pleased with the formulas as well any of the Julie Hewett™ make-up brushes that I’ve tried, I have a feeling it could be a winner. Good brushes are an integral part of quality mascara.

The Lips

Play is exactly what makes makeup fun. Trying new combinations of colors and techniques is an endless source of entertainment for many of us women. And Julie’s cosmetics are great for keeping us entertained. My favorite combination of the moment begins with applying Camellia Lip Balm, moisturizing my lips with essential oils. I use the tube for my lips and the pot of balm for my face. Next, I apply the Hue No. 7 lip liner. Since the lip liner is dry, the moistness of the lip balm helps it to line easier. Regardless, with or without the balm, it glides more easily than most lip liners I’ve tried.

Next I apply lipstick, the one area where the cosmetic line seems to need to go back to the drawing board – not because the formula for the lipstick needs re-developing, but because with use, the lipstick becomes fragile in its holder. The problem seems to be only in the packaging. The lipstick itself is a favorite – with just the right texture, moistness, and staying power, but without the artificial flavor of so many other lipstick lines. Plus, the colors are great. Time and again, I’ve tried colors that surprised me with the ways the lipstick highlighted the features on my face. When pinks became this summer’s style, I never expected to be able to pull it off, but with Julie Hewett’s Ronnie, a cross between rose petal pink and salmon, I was pleasantly surprised.

And to top it all off, my very favorite product of those I’ve tried in the lip line is Lip Lush lip gloss. This gloss gives a mouth-watering shine to the lips. My go-to gloss is Tish Lip Lush – a “nude 24 karat shimmer” that goes with everything – toning down lip colors just as it kicks it up a notch with shine. The packaging is just right on this lip product – a brush in a tube that easily applies without any of the mess of brushless tubes.

Julie Hewett is a makeup artist for celebrities like Nicole Kidman, Mandy Moore, and Diane Lane. I’m not sure why her makeup line isn’t more of a household word. But in my mind, it should be. With natural and healthy ingredients, she seems to have found just the right formula. To my knowledge, Simply Spoiled is the only place locally which carries the makeup line. You can also find the full makeup line online at www.juliehewett.net. Try it, and you might just find more space in your makeup drawer.
