Let's reduce our toxic exposure and improve our quality of lives.
In one of his near-daily entries, Dr. Joseph Mercola at
http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/04/24/epste... interviews a prominent cancer researcher who for years has warned the public about the dangers of using and ingesting toxic chemicals common to developed societies like our own. Not surprisingly, he and Mercola devote much attention to the FOOD AND COSMETIC INDUSTRIES. Dr. Mercola can be verbose, but he's always relevant if you ask me.
The good news you can take away from this article/interview is that we can create safer environments for ourselves. For example, I eat naturally-raised (often grass fed organic) meats, use natural skin care products from soap to shaving cream and buy mostly natural household products. It all started a decade ago when a girlfriend urged me to stop using conventional anti-deodorants with alum. I started learning about the skin's integral role in processing our environmental exposures. I was hooked. To me, all these small changes in habit make my world a healthier place.
Toxic exposure can cause rashes, respiratory issues and in natural health circles is a frequently mentioned factor in chronic pain and fatigue conditions. The idea is that accumulated toxins eventually overwhelm the body, leading to inflammation, pain and dysfunction.
In his cutting edge book "What Your Doctor May
Not Tell You About Menopause" author John R. Lee, MD said that by altering hormonal balances, toxic exposure contributed to sexual and reproductive problems in the modern woman.
I bet many of you already use safer products in your daily lives. However, I've also seen how resistant women can be to changing the cosmetics they've depended on for years! Or how a buddy refuses to believe that milk taken from cows raised on hormones and antibiotics can be harmful. Whatever your situation, I'd love to read what changes you've made in daily life, what food and household staples you rely on, and what questions still nag you about this important issue.
