1 slider, 2 sliders, 3 sliders, MORE!

I feel like everything is going towards personal and small portion route these days right?  Theres cupcakes instead of full slices of cake, flat breads instead of whole pizzas, tapas bars are all the rage…the list literally goes on and on!  I for one am in total favor!  We’re all guilty of order from the menu, getting a heaping portion, and then loving it so much that we over indulge!  Belly up, bloated and overstuffed, ew.  I’m loving the predetermined plate size that lets you be a little…

Uptown Girl Goes Downtown for a Burger!

Finding a great burger isn’t exactly the easiest task in the world.  I mean let’s be honest, there’s almost a full business plan that comes into play when trying to satisfy “the craving.”  Melodramatic?  Maybe.  Completely on point for a lady craving savory meet between two buns?  I think yes.  There are endless components that come into play…

“It” is what “It” is...Now WHAT?

Over the last month I have been involved with a number of events whose purpose was to gather data. Questions and discussions were among leaders from across a variety of organizations from formal to informal, and from the business community itself. These were not gripe sessions...although I have heard from enough people like that who complain how our region is not Silicon Valley or not New York or not “wherever.” That is very true and is likely to remain true. However, since we are not any of…

James Blake Resumes His Comeback with the Sarasota Open

The excitement of the Sarasota Open continued throughout the weekend.  In Saturday’s semi-final match between James Blake (11th seed) and Ryan Sweeting (1st seed), crowds were on the edge of their seats throughout the match that ended with a recurring tie-breaker. In the neck-in-neck match, Blake ousted Sweeting 17/15.

Saturday was also a good day for Alex Bogomolov (USA). Immediately after winning his semi-final match against Dancevic, Bogomolov and…

Geena Davis: A Champion for Women

With 10.45 hours of each day influenced by media, females are influenced by stereotypes and hypersexualization. Fewer than one in three characters in movies with speaking parts are female. G-rated films depict females in  provocative attire, much like  R-rated films.  For girls, the number one-ranked…

After ten days of non-stop action, the Sarasota Film Festival came to a screeching halt. As life returns to normal, there is a quiet void for those of us who voraciously partook of the festival and it seems as if an important part of life in Sarasota has come to an end for an entire year.…

Carmel Café and Wine Bar is a feast for the eyes.  A savory mix of fabulous flavors and romantic modern décor truly elevates this dining experience to one that satisfy’s on a sensory level that is truly indulgent!  Food can be amazing but when your surroundings are a bust, the diner is left with a void and a somewhat unmet need.  I love a dive…

Local Film THROUGH THE TUNNEL Premieres Thursday, April 14th

Re-visit local history with Thursday’s screening of “Through the Tunnel.”  The film tells the story of the Lincoln High Trojans, the football team of the former Manatee County School for African American students prior to desegregation in 1969. When the young men of Lincoln High were integrated into Manatee High to form a single, powerhouse program, head Coach Eddie Shannon was their guide, leading his team beyond the ignominy thrust upon the team by the challenges of…

“Kinyarwanda” gets my vote as one of the top contenders in Sarasota Film Festival’s narrative feature competition. Inspired by true stories, “Kinyarwanda” entwines six different stories within one film, giving a face to those affected by the Rwanda genocide. Over a million men, women and children…

If you’ve ever thought that anything “green” is environmentally friendly, think again.
