A Full Day of Films at the Sarasota Film Festival

What a great day of films at the Sarasota Film Festival! War and Love in Kabul was a fabulous film – a real life documentary of true love in Afghanistan. Part of UNIFEM’s films through women’s eyes, the film gives a tragic look at the reality of women and love in a country where daughters are bought and sold – a country where the need for money breeds naïve terrorists and women yearning for love. The true story shines a light on genuine love and… Continue

One evening with Kevin Kline isn’t enough, so I showed up for his “In Conversation” with Tom Hall on Saturday. And I’m so glad I did! There’s just nothing like sitting in an intimate audience listening to someone you’ve admired on screen in the flesh. For over an hour, Kline chatted with artistic director of the Sarasota Film Festival Tom Hall about his work, his films,…

Weekly Marketing Tip: What does your target market want?

Some say connecting with the customer is most important, others say it is perceived value and others say it is how eco friendly your product and or business is. It isn't any of them and it is all of them (depending on your niche). Let's look at some examples.

Here is an example of how a company missed their target: people who love music and are comfortable with tech…

Website TIP: Who [REALLY] owns your website?

As a web designer I often have a reason transfer a URL (website address) to my account or to an account set up in the client's name. Sometimes (Far too often) we run into a problem. The client doesn't have the website in their name! Unfortunately if you didn't buy your URL yourself some webmasters will leave the URL in their name instead of in yours. So if you want to transfer the Domain they get all correspondence and if they don't respond to it you are stuck and don't really have control over… Continue

Film, Film, Everywhere Film

If you’re a film buff like I am, you’re going to be in heaven for the next twelve days. Beginning today with the Sarasota Fringe Festival and culminating with the ten-day Sarasota Film Festival, which also runs in part simultaneously with the Fringe beginning on Friday, it’s going to be films and parties galore, and you rarely have to leave the block. Get Back on the Bike…

My daughter and I resolved to develop in better health. To do this we decided that getting more exercise would be good and that we would ride bikes together several times a week. We didn’t wait until January to get started. Before Christmas we began to ride 5 miles 2-3 times a week.

It felt good…

Dear Coach: I Want to Set a Big Goal for my Life But...

Dear Coach:

I have big dreams and big goals for my life, my career and my health, but I'm scared. I just feel as though they are all pipe dreams and I doubt they're possible. I worry and I wrack my brain wondering how in the world I could possibly achieve the things I really want. They just seem beyond my control. But I want them so much at the same time. I feel frozen from fear, frozen because I don't know how to make them happen, and just plain stuck. Can…

Weekly Marketing Tip: Stay Focused find a Niche

For the past decade more and more people have been either employing themselves or starting small businesses with a small number of employees.

I keep meeting people that say they do everything or this that and the other thing almost all all unrelated. That is the opposite of a niche. So what do you do if you want to do it all? As an example we'll use someone who
  • Option 1: Create separate businesses for each niche (dog sitting, home watch, and taxi service…
