KNOWLEDGE -IS IT POWER OR PARANOIA?

In my two years and counting researching and writing for 4Women.com, I have learned more than I maybe ever wanted to know about hair loss and cancer. Along the way, a question has been repeated to me by new

employees - “don’t you start feeling paranoid thinking about this stuff

all the time?”

There I was - new to…

VITAMIN D - THE NEWEST SUPER NUTRIENT

At one of my last endocrinologist visits, the doctor suggested I have my Vitamin D levels tested, stating that Vitamin D deficiency is nearly universal these days. What!? This is not Seattle and I don’t just live

in the Sunshine State. I play tennis, golf, run, walk the dogs, and

swim, all in our super-strenght UV rays. I couldn’t possibly be

deficient in the so-called “sunshine vitamin”.…

As Breast Cancer Awareness Month draws to a close, women currently undergoing treatments can visit my office Saturday morning October 30 for a free acupuncture session. Three slots are available. For many, acupuncture is already a tool for controlling the stress, nausea, fatigue, dizziness and lack of appetite that often accompany chemotherapy and radiation treatments.

Grand Opening of Michael’s New Wine Cellar and Tasting Room

If the response to Saturday’s grand opening of Michael’s New Wine Cellar and Tasting Room is any indication, then Michael Klauber and Phil Mancini have yet another winner on their hands. Michael’s dream to renovate and expand the Wine Cellar came to fruition when the long-awaited space finally became available next door. With its industrial ceilings and intimate bistro style, the renovation resembles something you’d be more likely to find in New York than Sarasota. A small bar area, high top… Continue

Highlights of the Ringling International Arts Festival

The Ringling International Arts Festival (RIAF) struck gold, at least in the eyes of this year’s patrons. With high caliber performances throughout the five-day Ringling International Arts Festival, festival-goers seemed awestruck by the amount of talent and creativity displayed in performance after performance. Baryshnikov Arts Center’s artistic direction of the festival resulted in a blend of theater, music and dance from established artists as… Continue

Celebrating Critters and the Coast

The oil disaster in the Gulf is far from over. Even though it’s no longer in the news, there are a lot of environmentalists and experts in engineering, science, commerce, culture, socio-economic studies and

research wanting to educate the public about solutions to sustainability issues.

Deltas and estuaries are among the most productive and the most threatened ecosystems…

Turbans In and Turbans Out

My mission is to unite the worlds of fashion and medical head wear so that we follically challenged ladies and girls don’t have to live outside the adjective ranges of “normal,” “fashionable,” or

“beautiful”. I’m all for head wear and fashion accessories that help us

to step out into the world with dignity and confidence, feeling bold

and beautiful, rather than sick or other.

Not all fusions of…

Ringling International Arts Festival's Opening Night : A Perfect Beginning

The stars were aligned for Opening Night of the Ringling International Arts Festival, and event organizers aligned them perfectly. Pre-performance champagne toasts in theater lobbies began the evening with sparkle that carried throughout the evening. As The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art and Baryshnikov Arts Center partnered for the festival, the Night of Premieres included four world premiere performances: solos by Mikhail Baryshnikov and…

Team Attitude Reaches Altitude

I wrote a blog back in August of 2009 to raise awareness of and support for 4 brave women climbing Mt. Kilimanjaro in their personal

mission to raise funding for breast cancer research. They’re back in

the UK now, having surpassed their fundraising goal of 20,000 pounds.

Congratulations ladies!!! With that kind of determination, we will

together chart our way to a future in which none of us have to surrender

our breasts in… Continue

What makes you different is where the money is at!

There is a uniqueness that is all about you, that is characteristic of what makes you different…what makes you special, what makes you unlike any other human being. Just as you are unique as an individual so are you as a business. Yes, there may be businesses that provide a product or service that is similar to what you provide. However they are not and you AND that IS important. Because it is in…

Relationship Tip of the Week: Don’t Be a Pest

I often hear people in relationship say things to each other like, “I was just trying to annoy you.” “I knew it would irritate you; I was only being funny.” What these statements are really saying is “I know the things that upset you, and I am purposely doing them.” That statement doesn’t sound loving, does it? And it’s not.

Healthy relationships are about cherishing each other. It is never cherishing to intentionally do something that you know your partner won’t like. Often such… Continue

Better Sleep With Acupuncture

Most patients sleep better after their acupuncture treatments.

It doesn't matter why they've come in. Could be a bad back, weight loss or any number of reasons. But when people revisit and I ask them about their sleep, the reports are almost universally positive.

Interestingly, sleep is a condition I am rarely asked to treat. While insomnia has various causes in Chinese Medicine - from extra body heat to… Continue
