Top 5 Business Blogging Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

Business blogging can be exceptionally rewarding. When done correctly, a successful blog can bring attention to your business, can attract new customers, and can turn your current customer base into the type of fans that companies like Apple, Netflix, and Ben and Jerry’s have: people who will not only buy your product or service, but evangelize it to their peers. Of course, like anything, there is a right way to go about starting a business blog… Continue

Are Consumers Ready to Buy Again

Good question!

As a local business owner I have a vested interest in whether consumers in our area are going to be loosening their purse strings during the Christmas and high-season. With the decline in consumer confidence over the course of the economic downturn, we have seen a belt tightening not experienced in this area since the 1992, the last time the Florida… Continue

PUTTING ON MY APRON AT APRON'S: Intermediate Techniques, Final Week

In our final week of the Intermediate Techniques class at Publix Apron’s Cooking School, intermediate was the name of the game. We worked with rice paper to form Shrimp Rice-Paper Rolls with Vietnamese Dipping Sauce. We slow-cooked Braised Short Ribs with a Shitake Mushroom and Cannellini Bean Ragout that was to die for! We formed Andouille Potato Cakes with a Roasted Corn Salsa, and we did the tedious job of working with delicate phyllo dough for the… Continue

Dear Coach - What is the Mind-Body Connection & Can it Help Me Lose Weight?

Dear Coach:

Can you help me understand more about the whole “body-mind” connection idea? I was in a conversation with one of my dear friends and she told me her mother had cancer, but that she had a miraculous “healing” by utilizing her mind to heal her body. I have always been fascinated by things like hypnosis and mental powers over matter. Can you use it to lose weight, for instance?

Avoiding the Swine Flu – The Natural Way

A flu shot isn't the answer to avoiding the Swine Flu, no matter how many time you hear that suggestion.

Do:

1. Eat a healthy diet, filled with vegetables, fruits, quality protein, and whole grains. Learn to love your… Continue

Zero Waste - Is It Attainable?

The topic of Zero Waste was discussed at a class I recently attended. Not having heard the term before, I found the concept to be very interesting. The discussion in the class was enlightening and inspired me to do some additional research.

Following is one of the definitions of the term found on a recent internet search:

“Zero Waste is a philosophy and a design principle for the 21st Century. It includes ‘recycling’ but goes beyond recycling by taking a ‘whole system’… Continue
