It seems that everywhere I go lately I am held captive to conversations I have no interest in hearing. On a flight from Sarasota to JFK this past week we were delayed two hours due to bad weather in New York. The moment we touched down at JFK my seatmate whipped out his cell phone and proceeded to call everyone in his address book to inform them he was delayed. I had to hear the same story repeatedly,at a very high volume, while waiting to deplane.
How about standing in line at the…

When historic wood windows are in need of repair, many homeowners automatically assume it is time for wholesale replacement of all the windows in the house. This is not only an expensive, disruptive project, but also begins a long term replacement cycle that can be easily avoided while saving money, energy and being environmentally friendly. However, many homeowners are not fully informed about the issues related to replacement windows and the options for repair. Below are some of the factors…

First let’s dispel a myth. Viral Marketing is NOT just online. Viral marketing is any marketing that propagates itself rapidly. An person is a person who is already sold on a product or service (infected) “infects” more people. An old example of viral marketing is PEZ collectible candy dispensers. A modern example is Facebook which is growing exponentially.
Viral marketing is often associated with the internet because the internet has many great propagation systems from blogs to…

"You do not attract what you want; you create what you focus on."
- Dr. David Krueger - MentorPath
After reading this quote, everything seemed so clear to me, all I needed to do was focus on the positive. How easy I thought. Well, not so much. My mind constantly slips back into fearful, anxious or even violent thoughts. It's as if the angel is on one shoulder and the devil on the other just like in the cartoons. But in real life it isn't funny whatsoever.
This dark…

Last week, I talked about the value of requesting what you want from your partner. This week’s tip is about what to do if your partner makes a request of you. The cherishing response for any reasonable request is to give it, if you can.
Notice that I said “reasonable.” That does not mean that you agree to let your partner watch you have sex with the UPS guy (yes, those kind of requests actually happen) or to any other request that violates your own sense of safety or principles.…

Ever say, "Someone should have invented a _________________?" It can happen as a grumble as you are wrestling with an uncomfortable or downright difficult task. When I took an interest in patents and inventions back in 1998, the Independent Inventor seemed miles away from any resources. It felt like groping around in the dark and questions fielded by patent attorneys were submitted on "billable time." There were Patent Marketing Submissions Companies and Representatives but many were shady. We…

Fellow Students Watching the Cream Whip
I was greeted at The Basics of Culinary Class at Apron’s Cooking School with an apron and a name tag. I was beginning to feel like a real chef already. Being the last to arrive, I was pleased to see a small class of only nine people with an almost equal mix of men and women. “Good,” I thought “I won’t be making a fool of myself in front of…

From every media source we are challenged to find a way of living that will ensure the longevity and health of our environmental, economic, and social resources. We all want to do our part, but the plethora of information about "green" living, "green" technologies and "green" architecture can be overwhelming. Lucky for those of us with historic Florida homes, our houses are already built with many environmentally friendly assets that help us reduce energy consumption. Prior to the introduction…

If you are a newbie into the running world, remember these three tips before you hit the pavement.
1) Fuel
Consume a small meal at least one hour prior to your run. This allows for sufficient time for the digestive system to do its job. The last thing you want is to get half way out and have an upset stomach or become light-headed.
Some simple pre-run meals:
-English muffin with peanut butter (add a sliced banana on top for longer runs)
-Energy bar…
