Dear Coach: I Want to Set a Big Goal for my Life But...

Dear Coach:

I have big dreams and big goals for my life, my career and my health, but I'm scared. I just feel as though they are all pipe dreams and I doubt they're possible. I worry and I wrack my brain wondering how in the world I could possibly achieve the things I really want. They just seem beyond my control. But I want them so much at the same time. I feel frozen from fear, frozen because I don't know how to make them happen, and just plain stuck. Can…

The Frightening Dangers of Sugar to Your Health!

Are you trying to eat healthy, but that good ‘ol sweet tooth (some call it the “pasta and bread tooth”) gets the better of you?

One thing is for sure, just knowing why sugar and refined carbohydrates are bad for you may not be enough to get you to stop eating them. Many people do things that are bad for them because they “feel so good…

Dear Coach: I suffer from Depression

Dear Coach:

Lately I don't feel very happy. I can't quite put my finger on it all, but the only word I can come up with is that I'm depressed. It's not as though I am leading a miserable life -- no crisis or trauma currently going on. I just feel agitated. I'm clumsy lately and I just plain don't care about much - my appearance, completing things.

There is so much I could say I'm grateful for and yet I can't really feel the gratitude. It's…

Dear Coach: I'm Worried because My Doctor Says I may have Insulin Resistance

Dear Coach:

What is insulin resistance?
I’ve heard that term from my doctor who is worried because I am 40 pounds overweight and he’s putting me on high blood pressure medication, but he also said if I’m not willing to take off some pounds and control my diet he is concerned about me developing adult onset diabetes. I’m kind of scared. I don’t really know what to do. He says it could be serious.

Dear Coach: My Kids and I are Chubby - How do I Change our Family Eating Habits?

Dear Coach:

I am so concerned about my son (12) and daughter (14). Both of them are chubby. Recently I decided it was time to get myself healthy and lose the extra 35 pounds I have been carrying around for years. I’m scared about my health and have been reading all the statistics about the rise of diabetes and diseases that seem to be caused by obesity. Unfortunately I have passed on my bad eating habits to my kids and now that I want to get them healthier and have… Continue

True Confessions - Addictions

Usually when you see "True Confessions" you think someone is going to tell you their juicy, embarrassing secret. In truth, there is a "secret," of sorts. That "secret" is what makes thousands of people suffer in silence.

My purpose for writing this particular blog is to help you save lives.

Just look at these statistics: Alcohol and other drugs are associated with 50% of spousal abuse cases, 20-35% of suicide cases, 50% of traffic fatalities,… Continue

Using Essential Oils to Help Control Overeating

Dear Coach

Can you tell me what I can do in the way of alternative medicine for enhancing my efforts to control appetite? I don’t like using drugs of any kind and I heard there were essential oils, and homeopathic remedies that might be of help. I find I get so hungry in the afternoon and that is when I “lose it” to chocolate or some sweet. Help Please!

Dear Coach: Just What Exactly Does a Life Coach Do?

Dear Coach:

I have heard so much about Life coaching and yet I don’t really know what it is. It seems a term that is going around everywhere, and I even have some friends who have hired a life coach. Can you explain what a life coach does?

I’m not so sure whether I really need a coach. Also, there seem to be different types of coaches and I don’t really understand.

Wondering

Conquering Food, Weight & Body Image From the Inside-Out - continued

Happy New Year! In my last blog on WQ we talked about a fictitious person, “Jane,” who was struggling with the conflict between her desire to lose weight and get healthier and her immediate cravings and urges to eat whatever she wants. As a result we said that Jane had been struggling with 30 to 40 pounds for years. She had been on many diets and she was now trying to keep her New Year’s resolution to… Continue

Dear Coach: Home for the Holidays: Warm and Secure or Fodder for a Binge?

Often in health and weight-loss coaching one of the main topics to come up is that of Holidays, family and food. A recent client conversation reminded me of the "boomerang" affects that being home for the Holidays has on her. You just might relate to what she says below:

"My usual pattern on Holidays is that I make it all the way through," she says. What she means is that she doesn't even touch the sweets and treats -- avoids the alcohol, the breads and fatty foods --… Continue

Dear Coach - I hate Keeping a Food Journal! Why Should I?

Dear Coach:

I am in a weight loss support group and one of our assignments is to keep a food journal for every single thing that we eat or drink. I’m so busy I don’t have time for this. It’s annoying and I don’t see how it will help me. In fact, it feels as though I’m having to focus more on food than I ever did by having to keep this journal. But the group facilitator insists. She says that if one person doesn’t do it that will disrupt the unity and support structure for the entire… Continue
