All too often, people say mean or hurtful words and then dismiss them later. "I was angry" "I was just having a bad day" or the proverbial "I was just PMSing" are all excuses people give for words they regret in hindsight. It is not acceptable to say words that hurt someone you care about in the heat of the moment and then fail to take responsibility for it. Words can cause a lot of pain, and often the very words that cause the most pain weren’t ever meant to be said.
So before you…

Standing by a table of guests at a recent wedding, I just couldn't help but overhear their conversation. "Which bread plate is mine?" “Is that your water glass or mine”?
It's okay to admit that you get anxious when you see a plethora of stemware on the table…and there’s nothing wrong with confessing that you're not sure where to put your bread!
Figuring out which water goblet is yours could be one of the first decisions you would be required to make as oftentimes, napkins…

If you're like me, you've tried a myriad of hair colors, styles and treatments to tackle the frizzes, unruly curls and the voluminous nature of Florida's heat and humidity -- with maybe temporary success but not much lasting result. Enter Keratin Smoothing Treatment, which I had my first (and subsequent 2nd and 3rd) at Yellow Strawberry Hair Salon in Sarasota (there's also another one in Lakewood Ranch, same partners). It was the first certified salon in the area, and I emphasize certified, as…

When you look at a cup, you know that you can hold liquids in it and the liquid will satisfy your thirst. You know that because you have learned that. As a baby you had no idea what a cup was and would have thrown it around as a ball or smashed it or heaven knows what.
What if..... we could be clean as a slate every time we encountered a situation in our life that has been difficult or trying for us? Instead of reacting like we usually do in a situation that just bugs us,
what…

The first time I went to Big Sugar about 9 months ago and It was OK. I gave them a second chance a couple months ago and recently had dinner there and I was blown away. The food is fantastic, the presentation gorgeous and the service was excellent. I encourage you to try Big Sugar soon. In season they are open for lunch too, WQ Mag could meet there for the lunch networking, it would be great.

When I walk along the beach, my feet in the water, my head down and my eyes following the waves, coming and going, splashing up; I see all kinds of stones in the water and on the sand, glistening in the sun.
Creations formed by the water and nature, the colors, the different shapes, the feel and the textures of these stones started to fascinate me. No machine could have shaped and polished them so perfectly.
Each piece I find is unique and I do not alter it; I may add some natural…

It’s that time. Time to evaluate your fitness goals. You have had over 180 days to squeeze in swimming, running, strength training, yoga, pilates, biking, walking, hiking, climbing, or whatever it is you wanted to accomplish and make part of your fitness routine. How’d it go?
Take time this week to revisit your goals. You still have time to lose that twenty extra pounds or run that half-marathon. Unfortunately, you may now be realizing that simply writing down goals doesn’t…

Did you know that there are 200+ properties in Sarasota County that are Single Family Homes that are under $100 Grand? I know!!! I couldn't believe it either!
Being a young professional in the Real Estate industry I never thought that I would be able to afford to buy a home in Sarasota County. 4 Years ago when I moved back to the area we were at the height of the market and we were seeing minimum homes prices in the quarter million dollar range just for simple SFH. Well now that has…

As a wedding planner I get to attend many weddings and I am constantly reminded of how little most people know about the proper etiquette of a toast.
Offering a toast is a fabulous way to show gratitude, praise, or admiration to someone special. That person may be the guest of honor at a celebration or a business function, a guest in your home, or your host at a dinner party. Below are some accepted forms of behavior when giving or receiving a toast.
Unless it is a very…

Imagine how thrilled Kim and I were when Rhonda Gorham took time out from lunching with George Clooney and meeting with the likes of Clint Eastwood and Annette Bening to send us some of the cosmetic line that the stars themselves are wearing. Yes, Rhonda who used to own Simply Spoiled here in Sarasota is now hanging out with celebrities in Beverly Hills, but she hasn’t left behind her love of quality cosmetics. Rhonda was so taken in by the cosmetic line of Julie Hewett, who has been makeup…

Adding balance exercises to your fitness program are just as important as your core strengthening exercises. Balance training strengthens the smaller muscles groups that assist prime movers (large muscle groups that perform most of the work for most movements). It also strengthens key muscular sub-systems. These sub-systems are specific muscle groups working synergistically to maintain balance in all planes of motion (forward, lateral and rotational). Picture yourself walking up a flight of…
